Raj was immediately at a full sprint, dashing down the long garden pathway to fully embrace his lover. Strong arms wrapped Mel around the waist and Raj easily lifted the Knight off his feet, twirling in a rush of momentum. A bright laugh bubbled from his throat in between brief kisses all over the Seelie's face. "It felt like you were gone forever!" When he finally put Meliorn back on his own two feet, he used both hands to cup either side of Mel's face, this time giving him a proper kiss. "Welcome home, Mel."

His mind flickered to Alec Lightwood and his turbulent relationship with Magnus Bane. He'd seen the looks and heard the whispers. A Shadowhunter with a Downworlder? It wasn't totally unheard of but it also wasn't widely accepted and on top of that, they were even the same gender. Raj couldn't think of one single reason why he'd willingly put himself in that same position as he was already the butt of many jokes. The last thing he needed was more unwelcome and dissatisfactory attention from his peers and higher ups.
Raj's dark eyes found Mel's, no he wouldn't lie about something like this. He hadn't chosen this, his heart merely fell into it, but the smile that found Meliorn's lips is what made him choose to stay and act upon it. He was willing to put himself in that position for the chance to be with Meliorn.
"If I said no, would you believe me?" He joked before taking his hand under Mel's chin to tilt his head back just enough for Raj to bend his neck and offer a chaste kiss to the man's lips. "I am capable of lying, so instead of using words, I'll show you how I feel."

The winter air was brisk and dry as dark clouds loomed over the city. It wouldn't be long before the snow started to fly. Equipped in light Shadowhunter gear and glamoured, Raj patrolled the streets, his nose red from the bitter cold. Snuggling down further into his scarf, he watched as a dark shadow passed by the alleyway ahead and disappeared into the darkness.
When Raj reached the back street, he wasn't sure what to expect, but it certainly wasn't a figure dressed much too lightly for the weather slumped between cardboard boxes and wooden crates. A sinking feeling loomed in the pit of his stomach. That wasn't just a drunk vagrant, it was a downworlder. "Hey!" He called out, breaking into a light jog. With every step closer, that feeling sunk deeper and deeper as his suspicions were confirmed. That wasn't just any downworlder, but the High Warlock of Brooklyn. "Hey? Magnus?" He said once more, lightly shaking the man's shoulder. The Warlock was cold to the touch. How long had he been out here? And what the hell happened to him? When there was no response, Raj quickly shed his coat and scarf and draped them around Magnus. Using his stele, he activated his strength rune and lifted Magnus up over his shoulder as if he weighed nothing at all.
Raj thought his heart was gonna burst out his chest when he was handed the keycard to the hotel room. He was surprised that he pulled it off, as he somehow convinced a mundane that Magnus was simply luggage and he had no problems carrying it to the room himself. There was zero service when he checked his cell phone and using the landline to call the Institute was a terrible idea. Raj couldn't leave the man alone so he sat comfortably in a chair and flicked through the channels on the television while Magnus laid in the bed under a pile of blankets.

"I don't often get the chance to talk to someone like you."
What Raj meant was that it wasn't often he was elected to speak with anyone of importance. Yet this time, fortunately for Raj, the Shadowhunters were wearing themselves thin with all the recent demon activity and even peons like himself were being trusted with more essential tasks. He sat in a chair opposite the High Warlock of Brooklyn and politely folded his hands on the table. "Thank you for meeting with me, Mr. Bane. The Clave would like to ask for your help in reinforcing the wards at the Institute."

- ashdown - "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Mel's hand was warm and welcome, palm down within his own and fingers intertwined. Raj watched lazy birds float across an orange painted sky while the sun slowly sunk behind the treeline of central park. Typically, he was always talking. About anything and everything. There was nothing he would withhold from Mel even if it was just what he had for lunch, but this evening he was abnormally quiet, even as he made up crazy stories about the strangers that walked by, unaware of their presence. It wasn't that he was nervous or anxious, angry or saddened. In fact, at this moment Raj was at his most content he'd ever been in life. When Mel broke the silence, Raj turned to face him, lips slightly parted. There was an apparent expression of shock that overcame his face. Sure, Mel's words were sudden, but more than that, they were the truth. Meliorn was incapable of lying. Of course he could manipulate facts with unmatched expertise but Raj found that the Seelie had never attempted it with him. Raj's hand squeezed Mel's in unspoken reply before he bent his head, hesitating just long enough to give the Knight an opportunity to turn away before capturing his mouth. Dark lashes rested upon his cheeks as a sweet and indescribable taste lingered while touching lips. There were definite passions that stirred in his gut, but he stilled them in order to keep his kiss chaste and appropriate. Breaking free, Raj then connected them at the forehead, a smile sneaking up at the corners of his mouth. "Is this how a Faerie Knight confesses his love to me?" He teased. |

The faerie knight turned on his heels and paced away so quickly Raj had to jog a moment to catch up, almost missing his name. Meliorn. So this was Meliorn. Suddenly the reason for the man's disappointment that Isabelle wasn't present made complete sense. A knowing grin crossed his lips as they walked, his hands clasped behind his back. When his dark eyes slid to look at the Seelie, he found a pair staring back and it immediately and humorously wiped the smile from his face, replaced by a serious and thoughtful expression.
"The Clave has spoken with Luke and he assured us none of his pack are involved. If we are dealing with a wolf, than it'll likely be alone and not from this area. I think we should go check out the Hunter's Moon and see if any new faces have shown up lately."
It was actually a good place to start and Raj hoped maybe he could rewind and rewrite Meliorn's cynical impression of him. He wasn't sure why, but there was a sharp tug within him that wanted... or well, needed Meliorn's trust.

He'd brought Meliorn to Taki's because it was familiar and comfortable, even if it wasn't the most charming place to go. Mel didn't seem to mind, even though tonight Raj had an agenda. He just wasn't sure how to bring it up in conversation, yet he felt Meliorn had a right to know, especially with how close they were becoming. Where it was true that Meliorn had and would live a lot longer than Raj anyway, finding the right words to tell him that his days were numbered left him tongue tied. He'd already tried a couple times before but the way Meliorn smiled at him, well he didn't want to ruin that. He sighed and felt Mel tap him lightly on the hand. Snapping his head up he realized the waitress had been waiting on him, tapping her pencil onto her ticket book in annoyance. "S-sorry! I'll just um... I'll have a burger." He sputtered yet finished with a smile even as the waitress rolled her eyes and made her way back to the kitchen.
Slender fingers came together as he folded his hands on top of the table, eyes downcast, obviously trying to pull the right words together. Mel tapped at his hand again and this time when he lifted his head he swore he could see concern in those dark eyes that watched him with expectation.
Raj had never expected he'd fall for a Seelie, much less a man, but love (?) worked in mysterious ways. And even more than that, he certainly didn't expect for such feelings to be returned. That made this conversation all the more impossible. Raj unfolded his hands, leaving one palm up in the middle of the table, wondering if Meliorn would reach for it. It might have been too much to ask since they were in the public eye. Mel had a reputation on the line after all.
After a deep breath, Raj opened his mouth, allowing the dam to break and the words to flood out in a blunt and straightforward and breathless mess. "Mel, I'm sorry, but I brought you here with a motive and I couldn't figure out how to tell you earlier but I'm sick and I'm going to die and it might be two years from now or tomorrow, but this illness is terminal and it will happen eventually, but it's not contagious and you don't have to worry about being around me but I felt you had a right to know so if you wanted to we could sever ties cleanly and without misunderstandings...." He snapped his jaw shut, dark eyes adverted. He looked spring loaded, ready to bolt out the door in a moments notice as he wasn't sure he really wanted to stick around to hear Mel's answer.

Raj was beyond thankful the Knight kept his back to him, he was certain his cheeks were on fire and the flames extended towards his ears and down his neck. Maybe Meliorn could even feel the heat. His arms felt strong against Meliorn's thin waist, his body curved around the other like a kind of shield. Although the Seelie could take care of himself, for the first time in his life, Raj felt that he could protect someone and keep them safe. He rather liked the feeling of this man in his arms.
Meilorn's words made him smile and he thought his heart might just explode from his chest when the Seelie's hand came over his. Was this acceptance? Raj had almost been concerned when Meliorn called for him, not sure what kind of words might be thrown his way. But when he had stood in the doorway of his tent, watched him tenderly care for the plants that loved him back, Raj very well couldn't stop himself from striding across the room and wrapping himself around the other.
Raj pressed his chest against Mel's back, burying his nose into earthy scented hair. "No," He replied, "Except maybe when it involves you."
