Meliorn could tell that something was troubling Raj, and he intended to get to the bottom of it. The Shadowhunter was distracted and physically here but mentally, somewhere else. When the order was given, Meliorn's eyes locked onto Raj's brown ones. He did not fail to notice his upturned hand, but he did not yet take it. Especially when Raj spoke of having a motive. This captured the Seelie's immediate interest, bracing himself for what he was about to tell him. And he listened to every word. His heart reacted more than his gaze. He could feel it . . . ache. What an unfamiliar feeling and one that he wished he could push away.
Though, even that was a lie. It wasn't just aching, he felt as if it was breaking. His face held no sign of this as he continued to listen. Raj spoke of how he had an illness and that it would eventually claim his life. He reassured him it was not contagious, and offered to sever all ties. When he was done, Meliorn felt his heart restored. He felt it come together. And he knew why. A small smiled formed on Meliorn's lips as he reached for Raj's hand, gently clasping his on top and giving it a light squeeze. "Is that all, Raj?" He asked him, incredibly nonchalantly, considering what his partner had just told him.
Meliorn couldn't help but let out an amused breath. Not quite a laugh but . . . something akin to amusement. "You Shadowhunters can be so dramatic," he teased. He knew the stages of grief in theory, but did quite connect that his denial . . . was a part of it. "You are not going to die." The Seelie said it with so much confidence . . . and Seelies could not give false tongue. He looked intently into Raj's eyes, leaning forward ever so slightly, his hand still on his. "I will not let that happen." Because he would call upon whatever magic he could, to save Raj's life.

"You're too good for this world." And Seelies did not lie. Meliorn meant the words. There was a great deal in this world that was dark, and corrupt. Yet Raj, seemed . . . pure. Meliorn never thought he would think such a thing from a Shadowhunter to this extent, but alas, he had said the words. And did not regret it. It was clear that Raj often strove to prove himself to others, for even Meliorn's initial impression had been filled with judgment of inadequacy. But, he was indeed skilled and more than capable. So in these shared moments of privacy, he wished for Raj to know that. For whatever happened between Downworldlers -- or specifically Seelies -- and Shadowhunters, his opinion of Raj was such. That he was too good for so much darkness in this world.

My muse is kidnapped and yours has to pay the ransom.
Meliorn was displeased. VERY displeased. He was currently tied to a chair, staring with strong disdain at the men surrounding him. They were holding him at ransom, demanding payment for his return. Some artefact from the academy. They made a point saying that the queen would be angry if she were to find out that the Clave neglected demands to save a Seelie. And Meliorn had just so happened to be out of the Seelie court and vulnerable to capture. Which had landed him here. A Shadowhunter would be coming to deliver what was required to save Meliorn's life.
And . . . part of him hoped for one in particular. The other part of of him, didn't want Raj to see Meliorn with himself tied up and held captive. Out of pride more than not wanting to cause concern in the Shadowhunter. "You will not get away with this," Meliorn told him rather calmly. And, Seelies did not lie. These Downwordlers would be punished for their crimes. Of that, Meliorn had no doubt. But not wanting to hear it, they proceeded to gag him. Yet if looks could kill, the one falling from the Faerie Knight's eyes could have murdered them a thousand times over.

Meliorn fought to hold back a smile at Raj's answer and . . . he wasn't entirely sure why bother to conceal the expression. Perhaps it was just being accustomed to doing so. Yet at the same time, they were alone. No one was watching them. They could be . . . themselves. Was it not the reason Meliorn had called him here? For even he could not feign the reason being business. There was no business to discuss. Raj's actions revealed that perhaps he too recognized that. Which saved them the terribly awkward small talk. And it left Meliorn feeling, grateful to him for it.
His body so close, the scent of the Shadowhunter . . . Raj was an assault on the Seelie's senses. Meliorn closed his eyes for a brief moment to compose himself as he turned around to face the taller male. He felt that flicker of pride in knowing that Raj wasn't always like this, but the knight couldn't help but state another teasing -- or partly teasing -- remark. "Seelies can not lie," he began to say, losing the battle of suppressing his smile as his lips curved into one. "But you can," he said, raising his hand to run it through Raj's hair on the side of his head, above his ear. "The question becomes . . . would you, about this?" About them? There was a playfulness to the inquiry, a continued smile on his lips, yet an expectant gaze in the Seelie's eyes for answer.

[ wrap ] for your muse to walk into the room and say nothing before wrapping their arms around my muse. Meliorn was unsure why he was doing this. He did not let emotion effect his judgement and yet . . . he had requested a particular Shadowhunter come to his tent. And it was not Isabelle. She was the only other person that he welcomed. But this time, it was Raj. Was it a mistake? Perhaps. But there was no regret. Meliorn was not clad in his arm, but rather, a loose fitted shirt with combed hair over one side. Form fitting pants and flat shoes. He was tending to one of his pants, pausing when he heard someone enter. But he did not turn around to face him. He felt the need to get himself composed.
To keep himself composed. Before he knew it however, he felt the man's arms wrap around him. Meliorn forced a reaction back, for the touch was not . . . unwelcome. Nor unpleasant. Quite the opposite. Perhaps the other male felt it too; felt that strange pull towards each other. The same one that promoted Meliorn to request him to his room. Without turning to face Raj, Meliorn's hands lowered from his plant. "Are you always this, brazen?" He asked him, his tone holding a teasing to it, and clear evidence that the embrace was not one he wished to end so quickly, his hand instinctively moving to rest over one of Raj's.

It would appear that Meliorn had offended the Shadowhunter. But then . . . that had been the point. The Seelie was well aware how his comments could be taken. He was just, uncaring of the emotional repercussions of them. "I suppose we will have to wait and see whether your words hold truth." Meliorn did not know him. Did not know his skill. He knew the strongest Shadowhunters: Alec and Isabelle. And the fact that he had been expecting one of them . . . well, there was no point dwelling in it. What was done, was done. Meliorn just looked at Raj, his lips curving into the slightest of smiles though it was more in mocking. "That will not happen," Meliorn said confidently. The utmost certainty in his voice.
"As I can not refuse the offered aid of the Clave, then I suppose we will just have to adjust to circumstances." Of them working together. With that, he turned and started walking, not bothering to check if Raj was keeping up. "I am Meliorn," he introduced, slightly raising his chin. "The deceased Seelie was another knight. Newly positioned. His body was mutilated. Most obvious answer being a werewolf, or someone who wishes to frame one." Meliorn looked at the Shadowhunter, having answered his earlier question. "That is all I know. Did the Clave have any updates they sent with you?" He asked.

Meliorn just stared in silence as the Shadowhunter, now known as Raj Ashdown was apparently, incoherently talking to himself. Mumbling something that the Seelie could not make out. Yet something that he did not interrupt either. Soon enough, he broke out of it, apologized, and then explained that he was all that was available before moving on to business. Which, suited the Seelie just fine. He was not one for trivial small talk. Yet, there was something that he required to ask. "Are you of . . . sound mind?" He questioned, his expression showing no sign of jest. The man was grumbling to himself. Was he really in his right mind? Was he up for the task at hand?
The Clave may not place this as great importance but the Seelies did. Especially Meliorn considering he was leading the search for the murderer. "I will not waste my time with a Shadowhunter who is mentally unfit for this task. I would rather not spend the entirety of the investigation making sure he is protected." And that was the Faerie knight putting it nicely. Making sure he didn't do something against better judgment. Because, well, Meliorn knew that if the Shadowhunter died on his watch . . . it could intensify the already existing tension.

The Shadowhunter looked as confused as the Seelie, though . . . more obvious. Then again, Meliorn must have looked obvious enough to prompt the others reaction. Meliorn's gaze fell to the man's extended hand for only a moment before he turned his head upright once more to look at him. Though, he had to title his head a little bit more up to properly make eye contact. The faerie knight did not shake his hand, nor show any sign that he was going to. "I was expecting someone else," he said bluntly. Though Seelies did not lie, there was no need to beat around the bush with this expectation. "Why did they send you?" An important question. For it was either to flatter or insult. But, considering the Seelie had never met or heard of the man before . . . his guess was on the latter
